Campgrounds Each
campground has at least six lean-to shelters 9 to 10 tentsites, picnic tables,
trailhead parking and a rangers station.
Abol: (Elev.1300`) is six miles from the gatehouse along the
Abol Stream, about two miles east of Katahdin Stream. 12 lean-tos / 9
tentsites. Tank toilets , no showers. Fishing. Skiing (winter only). Open 5/15
- 10/15.
Daicey Pond
Campground: 11 cabins, wilderness type.
Cabins are equipped with beds, a stove for heat and gas lights. All bedding and
cooking utensils must be provided by the camper. Outdoor fireplaces for cooking
and picnic tables are provided. Pit and tank toilets, no showers. Fishing,
Skiing. (winter only). Fees for canoes. Open 5/15 to 10/15.
Katahdin Stream
Campground: (elev.1100`) is eight miles
from the Togue Pond Gatehouse just off the perimeter road. Tank toilets, no
showers. Open 5/15 - 10/15.
Kidney Pond
Campground: 12 cabins, wilderness type.
Cabins are equipped with beds, a stove for heat and gas lights. All bedding and
cooking utensils must be provided by the camper. *Outdoor fireplaces for
cooking and picnic tables are provided. Tank toilets, no showers. Fishing,
Skiing.(winter only). Fees for canoes. Open Memorial Weekend to 10/15.

Nesowadnehunk Field
Campground: 11 lean-tos / 12
tentsites.Fishing. Skiing (winter only) Tank toilets, no showers. Open mid June
to mid September. 35 mi nw via SR 157 and private Roads.
Roaring
Brook: (elev.1500`)is the last stop on
the eight mile dirt road from Togue Pond Gatehouse. This is the most popular
campground because of the most frequented destinations. Has 12 lean-tos/10
tentsites/8-person bunkhouse. Fishing, Skiing (winter only). Tank toilets, no
showers. Open 5/15 - 10/15.
South Branch Pond
Campground: 12 lean-tos / 21
tentsites/6-person bunkhouse.Fishing. Skiing (winter only) Tank toilets, no
showers. Fees for canoes. 33-1/2 mi w of Patten. Open 5/15
-10/15
Chimney Pond:
(elev.2900`) located 2000` below the
South Basin headwall, 3.3 miles from the trailhead at Roaring Brook
Campground. Moose walk freely around this area which is quite a sight, just
keep your distance since this is their home. Backpacking ONLY With
pristine Chimney Pond in the middle of the South Basin the views are
outstanding. Located with nine, 4 person lean-tos, a 12 person bunkhouse and
the ranger cabin. Theres no tenting or open fires, portable gas stoves only.
This is the best area for the ascents to Katahdin. Pit toilets, no showers.
Open 6/1 - 10/15. Rock and ice climbing. Established cut-off time for leaving
to hike into Chimney Pond is 5:00.
Russell Pond:
Backpacking ONLY 4 lean-tos, 4
tentsites/8 person bunkhouse. Pit toilets,Fishing. Skiing (winter only). Fees
for canoes. Backpack 7 mi. from Roaring Brook, or nine miles from South Branh
Pond. Open5/15 - 10/15. Established cut-off time for leaving to hike Russell is
2pm There are no bridges over Wassataquoik Stream-rock hopping and
wading.
Avalanche Field Group
Area: Will accomodate 50 people in four
sites, is 6.5 miles along the Roaring Brook Road.
Davis Pond
Lean-to: (elev.2900`) 4 person capacity
located in the middle of the beautiful Northwest Basin eight miles from
the nearest trailhead.
Trout Brook
Farm: 16 tentsites.Fishing.Tank toilets,
no showers. 26-1/2 mi w of Patten. Open Memorial Weekend to Labor Day.

Vehicle Size: No vehicle which exceeds an overall dimension of 9`
high 7` wide, or 22` long for single units, 44` for combined units will be
allowed to enter the park. No Pets. Water: All water sources
will be untreated, open sources. Please plan to treat your water by boiling,
using chemicals or a filter. or bring sufficient water from home.
Facilty Capacity: Consider the capacity of all facilties, each child
is counted as one individual reguardless of age. Cabin capacity is restricted.
Before adding people to your party, consult with Reservation Clerk, to be sure
your site will hold additional people. There are no: electric,
water or sewer hookups, Baxter is a total carry-in/carry/out
park.
As daylight
hours: shorten in the fall, posted cut-off time is earlier. Please
verify cut-off times with Reservation Office and make plans
accordingly.
