Mt. Washington Winter Trek 3 /24/00 Ever have one of those things that you just had to try.
Climbing Mt.Washington in the winter was one of those things. So got as
much information as possible, packed my gear and went. March 24 was a
beautiful day, temperatures in the valley were in the fifties. I started
from the Pinkham Notch visitors Center heading up the Tuckermans Ravine Trail
then took the Lions Head Winter route. The views were tremendous,
visibility was about 65 miles. The wind wasn`t bad, at least until i got to the
summit. where it was blowing 54 m.p.h. bringing the chill factor down to around
12 below. However it was so invigorating and I had such a feeling of
accomplishment I didn`t care. Not to mention there was only one other hiker
there besides me, unlike the summer where you have to stand in line at the
summit. |
